The Emotional and Mental Wellbeing Project offers short-term remote counselling and coaching services to young adult carers in Redbridge. The project aims to provide in-depth support to young adult carers during the coronavirus pandemic, in addition to the information, advice and guidance services provided by RCSS. The project offers six sessions online or over the telephone, depending on your circumstances and preferences.

The coronavirus pandemic has impacted carers in various ways, for example additional stress and responsibilities, bereavement, isolation or poor mental health. Counselling offers you a space to speak confidentially with a professional, explore your emotions and look at different options for dealing with challenges in your life.

In other cases, coaching may be useful, particularly if you think you could benefit from support around new ways of working and learning, building confidence and self-esteem, and setting and achieving goals in uncertain times. Coaching can support your personal growth and development, help you to explore your aspirations for the future and develop an action plan to achieve your goals.


Who can access the service?

You can access the service if you meet the following criteria:

  • Aged 16-30
  • Providing unpaid care to someone living with physical or mental health difficulties, a learning disability, substance misuse/alcohol issues, or is ill, frail or elderly.
  • Able to access a suitable environment with appropriate technology for remote counselling or coaching

Referrals

You can self-refer or be referred by another professional by emailing Kate at [email protected]. Please include the following in your email: 

  • Name and address
  • Age
  • Telephone and email
  • GP Details
  • Referrer name
  • Referring Agency (if external)
  • Referrer Tel No (if external)
  • Reason for referral
  • Any other information that might be relevant for those communicating with, or providing therapy to, the person being referred e.g. disabilities, potential risks.

You will be contacted to arrange a convenient time for an assessment session. You will then be matched with a suitable counsellor or coach or, if necessary, referred on to more appropriate services.
